Biographie
Soulgrind a été fondé en 1992.
Soulgrind est un groupe soulevant de fortes émotions comme la tristesse et la joie accentuée par des mélodies trépidantes. Il cherche son inspiration à travers les mythes et les croyances finlandaises et plus particulièrement par le poète Eino Leino (finlandais lui aussi).
De 1992 à 2007, Soulgrind a réussit à s'imposer comme l'un des plus gros groupes de metal finlandais.
Leur nouvel album "Pakana" a été composé juste après la sortie de "The Origins Of The Paganblood". Durant de longs mois, dix-sept titres ont été composés et onze ont été sélectionnés pour figurer sur l'album. C'est après la finalisation de cet album que Jani (basse) a quitté le groupe pour rejoindre un groupe d'indus Pentatonik.
Pakana en finnois veut dire païen. Les mélodies de l'album sont basées sur les influences Pagan Folk, on y décèle même des mélodies orientales. Les textes sont basés sur leurs émotions et leurs sentiments. Le morceau "Pakana" a été écrit par Heikkinen (le fondateur), lorsque sa future femme a tourné le dos à l'église catholique et choisit de ne pas baptiser leur enfant. L'enregistrement de l'album "Pakana" a été fait avant même qu'il naisse. Le sentiment de solitude est aussi très présent sur cet album.
