The New Wave of Swedish Death Metal, is a musical genre created at the begining of 1990.

At this time, another kind of music Death Metal was developing in Scandinavia, especialy around Stockholm and Götheborg, in Sweden. The main characteristic of this music is that it incorporates important melodic parts, so giving to the music a sound rather different from the other variations of Death Metal. This new genre was strongly influenced by the group Bathory, as well as by the Thrash Metal.

The first wave of Swedish Death Metal consisted of groups Carnage et Nihilist, who split up later to created bands such as Entombed, Dismember et Unleashed.

Later, this kind of music Concentrated around Göteborg, thanks to groups such as At The Gates, Dark Tranquillity or In Flames, which knew a world success.

Today this " new wave " of Death Metal is very prosperous, the groups taming a sound always more modern.
