Earache Records

Earache Records est un label basé à Nottingham, au Royaume-Uni, et à New-York, aux Etats-Unis. Le label aida les débuts du metal extrême en signant un grand nombre de groupes Death Metal et Grindcore, dans la période 1988-1992.
Earache a été fondé par Digby "Dig" Pearson en 1985. Avant de prendre le nom "Earache", Pearson sortit une compilation de jeunes groupes de punk/hardcore et de crossover : "Anglican Scrape Attic". La première sortie officielle du label, avec pour référence MOSH1, fut le vinyl de Accüsed : "Return of Martha Splatterhead", en 1987. La première sortie majeure du label fut "Scum" de Napalm Death. Les premières sorties du label furent des albums de groupes aujourd'hui considérés comme des leaders de la scène metal extrême ; des classiques définissant les genres à l'époque.
Earache est donc devenu inextricablement lié à la scène Death Metal en particulier, mais le label a aussi signé plus récemment des groupes qui étendent la notion de musique extrême, comme Ultraviolence, groupe anglais qui fait de la Hardcore Techno. Les scènes Grindcore et Death Metal qui firent sa renommée restent néanmoins prédominantes.
