Deep Purple est un groupe de Hard Rock britannique fondé en 1968.

Ce groupe a été un des premier à introduire un son aussi "lourd" (d'où le terme Heavy) au sein du Rock, ce qui fit sensation à l'époque.

Le groupe a splitté en 1976 pour se reformer en 1984 et être encore en activité aujourd'hui.

Le célèbre morceau "Smoke on the Water" raconte ce que le groupe à vécu en assistant à l'incendie d'une salle de concert à Montreux ,en Suisse ,pendant un concert de Frank Zappa.
